Katie Pruitt, a singer, songwriter, and musician, will release her much anticipated new album, Mantras, on April 5 via Rounder Records. A new song, “White Lies, White Jesus, and You,” is out today in advance of the album.
“I wrote ‘White Lies, White Jesus & You’ about shedding any remaining shame associated with the church,” Pruitt says of the song. It’s a deliberate protest song that rejects the idea that the Bible’s aim is to keep or oppress people. I hope it serves as a reminder to anyone who has been damaged by religion that spirituality is something you define for yourself and that no institution can take that away from you.”

Grammy-nominated duo The Secret Sisters , made up of siblings Laura Rogers and Lydia Slagle, will release their anticipated new album, Mind, Man, Medicine, on March 29 via New West Records. The new song, “Same Water,” is available now ahead of the release.
“Fresh off the stress of a worldwide pandemic and slowly entering into a more normal world, we wrote this song together on a wet afternoon in Nashville, trying to make sense of the ways we all choose to find healing, as a society and as individuals,” the sisters say of the music. It felt necessary to express our own struggle with our own choices in this area, as well as the need to give empathy to those who chose differently.”

Judah & the Lion (Judah Akers and Brian Macdonald) of Nashville will release The Process, their fifth studio album, on May 10 via Cletus the Van / Downtown Artist & Label Services. The 19-track album is a soul-baring song cycle that grapples with the five stages of mourning — Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance – and eventually finds beauty and purpose in the sorrow.
They shared “Is What It Is,” a song from the album, ahead of its release. “The song title is a direct quote from Peter Crone, a thought leader in human potential and performance,” Judah adds. “The past cannot be changed, and attempting to change it can be detrimental to the future.” The key is acceptance – what is happening is supposed to happen because it is happening. This is a very powerful step in moving away from grief.”
